Many dementia sufferers feel the need to wander, without knowing where they’re headed. Normal care home procedure is to severely limit the movements of people who may be in a confused state of mind. Restriction can lead to stress and verbal or physical confrontation, as sufferers can feel frustration at loss of control in their lives, along with the inability to express their wishes and needs.
Sunningdale provides an environment where it is safe for residents to have as much freedom as possible. We operate a daytime open door policy, so residents can enjoy the secure landscaped gardens as much as they like, easing any feelings of restriction.
The house itself is a spacious Victorian building, refurbished to the highest standard. Situated opposite the award winning Lister Park the leafy surround aids the sense of tranquillity.
We encourage families to provide treasured personal items to help make rooms feel like home. Five large, airy communal lounges, a fully fitted hair dressers, and 32 single en-suite rooms and four double en-suite rooms across two floors make Sunningdale Care Home large enough to cope but small enough to care.
